WHAT IS GOING TO BE THE SKY FLIGHT PANORAMA OF THE FUTURE?

How will we fly in 20 years from now? Who has never asked themselves
what are going to be the aircrafts of the future and what shall we expect from
them?

 

Well, they are not going to have strange and science fiction-like forms,
similar to spaceships (I know, I was also disappointed…).  But they are going to be revolutionary in
their technology and materials and this, our dear readers, deserves a heartfelt
“wow”!

 

The aviation of the next future, let’s say from here to the next 20
years, is going to remain very similar to the one of today. It has been confirmed
by Mit in a series of research also funded by Nasa: “Even if you look closely at a plane of 2035, it will be difficult to
find the difference with the today’s ones, but the structural, electronic and
ecological improvements will be revolutionary”
, said Richard Whals, the Project Scientist of NASA’s Fundamental
Aeronautics Program’s Subsonic Fixed Wing Project. It will be more about the
efficiency and reduced noise, a greater cargo capacity and more versality in
terms of the possibility of landing on the most of the worlds runways.

 

These will be supersonic aircrafts, capable of holding
hundreds of passengers and entertaining them with top comfort and multimedia;
with hybrid engines, propulsion systems (like those of fighter planes), ceramic
body and nanotechnological alloys…     

For example, the Sma -like shape-memory alloys, which maintain the memory of the shape and restores it if exposed to high
temperatures. Or nanotubes in carbon and composed materials (always in carbon
fiber), that can react to stress and repair itself, at least in small part.

 

Boeing and Airbus already
increase the use of these materials for the aircrafts that are already in
construction.

 

The aircrafts of the future will be able to connect
Italy to Australia in few hours, reducing the harmful emissions in the
atmosphere thanks to the always more eco-friendly materials and engines
. The goal is to
reduce the consumption by 70%, the oxide and nitrogen emissions and to contain
within 70 decibel the noise of the aircrafts: basically, like a vacuum cleaner!

 

But are we sure that the aircrafts of the future will need pilots?

 

If it is true that military research often anticipates means and
instruments that with time gets commonly used and if you consider that military
drones are a reality, you could also think that soon the robotics could take the
place of a person at the command. We already have many examples, just think
about cars capable of parking themselves… Who knows if the automatic aircraft
pilot will be used in every stage of the flight, from the beginning to the end
of the trip!

 

But exactly how far have we come nowadays?

 

Maybe not everybody knows, but above our heads there are already commercial airplanes that flies with such
alternative fuels like frying oil!

 

Yes, dear friends, you understood correctly,
frying oil!We are talking about companies like Qantas,
that in 2012 made its first transoceanic commercial flight with
Airbus A330-200
powered by biofuel made of aviation fuel and a liquid that comes from waste
oils
of the American Mc Donald’s kitchens.

 

Or the KLM, that starting from 2007 is working on the research of the
new fuel types. Or the Japanese All Nippon Airways. Not to mention China, that
in 2014 inaugurated a plant that regenerates waste kitchen oil and transforms
it in aviation fuel.

 

Well, the future is already here!

 

And not only this: we are already in the future for what concerns the
short range flights, because Airbus has just successfully carried out the first test flight with
a
completely automatic taxi drone!

 

This news was reported on February 2018. The “flying taxi” is called Vahana and it is an
electric craft with vertical take-off and landing, equipped with automatic
pilot.

But also the Chinese company Ehang completed all of its tests
and now is ready to commercialize this revolutionary product with its first
flight planned in Dubai within the end of the year.
So, there are many changes in the air… What other evolutions shall we
expect in the next twenty years?

Boeing, Airbus and Nasa
are working hard. For each of them the code word is supersonic, or rather Hypersonic.

 

Airbus promises extra long wings and a singular U shape tail
that will guarantee to the aircraft excellent benefits in terms of
consumptions, emissions and manoeuverability. Self-cleaning fabrics and the
seats capable of changing the form of its cushions in order to guarantee the
passenger maximum comfort during the flight and it will be enough to touch a
button to see what is happening outside: walls, floor and ceiling will become
transparent.

 

Boeing instead, talks about a big air giant, capable of
directing the engine propulsion in a different direction compared
to the one which is parallel to its longitudinal axis, which will permit the
craft to do different manoeuvers that are physically impossible to do for
the aircrafts with conventional engines. This will give the aircraft the
possibility to reach the speed of 1000 km/h.

 

Amongst the concepts created by NASA, one of the most original projects
is the Puffin: it is a personal
executive airplane which is piloted by
itself and can make brief routs (maximum 80 kilometers).

 

The aircrafts of the future will reach incredible
speeds

amazingly shortening the hours of the flights and will ease the connections
between cities and continents. An example? It will only take about 11/20
minutes to reach New York from London.

 

And this is the goal of the Antipode in the idea of Charles Bombardier.

 

Antipode is the next step of the original project Skreemr, which, its intentions, is to be able to transport 75
people at a speed that is 10 times higher than the speed of the sound.
Nevertheless, problems were found of overheating and acceleration in the
prototype and from there was born the idea of Antipode, a smaller but almost
twice speeder luxury jet. Anyway, for the moment it remains just a project
even though it is possible to admire its design in a video.

 

Therefore, our dear readers, the aircrafts of the next twenty years will
not be so different in their shape from the ones of today, but they are surely
going to be revolutionary in their materials, in respect for the environment
and in the possibility of flying looking at 360° around us. And THAT! is
already getting ready to quote you these science-fiction aircrafts and we are
so excited about it!
